Hereditary diseases

Description
X-linked immunodeficiency (X-SCID) is characterized by impaired cellular and humoral immunity, which inevitably leads to the death of the animal at about 4 months of age. Due to the almost complete absence of the immune system, puppies die from infectious diseases.

Only males are susceptible to X-SCID, while healthy males cannot be carriers of the disease. The appearance of sick bitches (homozygous for the mutation) is excluded due to the early death of males with X-SCID, so bitches can be carriers and clean for the disease.

Symptoms
Immunodeficiency becomes evident at an early age, from hours to several weeks after birth. Puppies often suffer from diarrhea and nausea, and are susceptible to infections caused by opportunistic pathogens.

Diagnostics
Characteristic changes in the behavior and physiology of the dog.
