Hereditary diseases
An autosomal recessive disease associated with mutations in two genes (FTSJ3 and GH1) resulting in maxillary canine mesioversion (MCM), in which the upper canine is pushed forward towards the nose, a phenomenon also known as lanceolate canine. One or both canines of the upper jaw may be affected. MCM may cause traumatic occlusion, ulceration of the upper lip, and/or periodontal disease, removal or orthodontic repositioning of the canines may be required. The disease is also associated with a decrease in the size and weight of the dog.
