An autosomal recessive disease of Toy Poodles associated with a mutation in the HEXB gene. Affected dogs have an excessive accumulation of GM2 glycoprotein, especially in the cells of the brain and nervous system. Affected dogs usually show symptoms of a neurological disease between 9 and 12 months of age. Symptoms include difficulty walking, loss of balance, head tremors, vomiting, loss of vision. The disease progresses rapidly and dogs usually die between 18 and 23 months of age.
