Hereditary diseases

Description
As with drug sensitivity, malignant hyperthermia is not a disease - it is a syndrome that only occurs with a number of drugs under anesthesia. With the use of volatile inhalers (halothane, isoflurane, sevoflurane) and depolarizing muscle relaxants such as succinylcholine, hypercapnia, tachycardia, and hyperthermia develop rapidly. Signs can progress to abnormal heart rhythms, acute skeletal muscle necrosis, kidney failure, and death. In case of detecting the first signs of the development of the syndrome in the dog, it is necessary to urgently stop using the anesthetics used, apply supportive therapy and cooling. Effective use of the muscle relaxant Dantrolene (Dantrium, Dantrolene Sodium).

An alternative to drugs that cause hyperthermia is the use of other anesthetic protocols: nitrous oxide, benzodiazepines, phenothiazines, barbiturates, propofol, Etomidate, dissociative agents, opioids, non-depolarizing nerve blockers, or a combination of intravenous and local or regional anesthesia.
