Hereditary diseases

Description
Clotting factor VII (proconvertin) plays an important role in blood clotting. It is formed in the liver and is a necessary participant in the activation of blood coagulation factor X, which, in turn, is involved in the processes of prothrombin activation and its conversion into thrombin.

Lack of factor VII leads to an increase in thrombus formation time and, accordingly, to an increase in bleeding time. For beagles, the frequency of the mutant allele, according to various literature data, is 30-55 %% (Callan et al. 2006, Carlstrom et al. 2009).

Symptoms
Blood clotting disorder. Symptoms are, however, mild, and severe bleeding is usually possible only after severe trauma or surgery.
